Morningstar Investment Management LLC has appointed Mr. James Foot as Chief Investment Officer (CIO), APAC, effective September 2026.

Mr. James Foot re-joined Morningstar Investment Management LLC as Chief Investment Officer, APAC, in September 2026. He is based in Australia.

James Foot is an investment professional with experience in multi-asset portfolios, capital markets, and strategic and dynamic asset allocation. His professional background also includes leadership of investment teams, presentations to investment and fund-rating audiences across Asia and Australia, and working with boards and investment committees to support investment outcomes.

Previously, he was CIO, Wealth and Private at Commonwealth Bank, where he served from February 2025 to September 2026.

Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank, Foot spent more than eight years at Morningstar Investment Management Australia. During his tenure, he served as Head of Research, APAC (January 2021–January 2025), Director, Capital Markets and Asset Allocation (April 2017–January 2021), and Associate Director, Capital Markets and Asset Allocation (June 2016–April 2017).

Before that, Foot was Associate Director, Capital Markets and Asset Allocation (November 2015–June 2016) and an Investment Consultant at Ibbotson Associates (January 2012–November 2015).

Prior to joining Ibbotson Associates, he was Head of Portfolio Construction and Asset Allocation at Centric Wealth (October 2009–December 2011) and Head of Research at Centric Wealth (2006–2009).

Earlier in his career, Foot was a Research Analyst at Centrestone Wealth Advisers (2002–2006) and Investor Security Group (2000–2002).

He holds a Diploma of Financial Planning from Deakin University, a Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Economics and Finance from Charles Sturt University, and a Master’s in Applied Finance from Kaplan Professional (2014).
